About Julie Libby MS.
I hold an independent license to practice Clinical Mental Health and Pastoral Counseling in Maine. I treat and diagnose mental illness in all of its forms — including mood disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma-related conditions, grief, and adjustment difficulties. Other areas of treatment include but are not limited to relationship and family concerns, anxiety, depression, and issues of spirituality and spiritual abuse. Many of my clients come in carrying years of religious or institutional injury alongside the more typical losses of work, health, and connection; I take that history seriously and never ask anyone to choose between their faith and their healing.
My practice is first Rogerian, or “Person Centered.” That means I begin from the assumption that you are the expert on your own life and that change happens fastest in a relationship marked by genuine warmth, accurate empathy, and unconditional positive regard. From that foundation, I also employ several additional evidence-based modalities — Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for the thought-feeling-behavior cycles that keep anxiety and depression in place, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills for emotion regulation and distress tolerance, and Mindfulness practice for staying grounded when the present moment feels unsafe. The mix is individualized; we adjust as your goals evolve.
I am licensed in Maine as a Licensed Pastoral Counselor and Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and see clients across the state by secure video. The first session is a low-pressure conversation about what brings you in and what you’d like to be different. Whether the work is brief and skills-focused or longer-term and exploratory, my goal is the same: that you leave each session a little more able to be honest with yourself, a little kinder to yourself, and a little more equipped for the week ahead.
